Exercise of the Month – Wall Sits

Jun 9, 2016 | Exercise, Health Information

Many people suffer every day from various forms of joint pain. Some of the most common areas people experience pain in are the back, hips, knees, and wrists.

What if I told you there is a relatively simple way to help relieve this pain, that you can do in your own home, for free? Well, you’re in luck, because there is: exercise.

Strengthening the muscles that support your spine and joints is a great way to relieve back and joint pain.

Please make sure to consult with your doctor before beginning any kind of exercise program, especially if you have had any joint replacements, or broken or fractured bones. Your doctor can tell you which exercises are best for you.

The exercise of the month is Wall Sits:

This exercise strengthens your core muscles especially the gluteal muscles and the muscles of the upper thigh.

Stand 10-12 inches from the wall, then lean back until your back is flat against the wall.

Slowly slide down until your knees are slightly bent and you are pressing your back against the wall.

Hold for a count of 10, then slide carefully back up to a standing position. Repeat 8 to 12 times.
